Hitchbay — sell your motorhome or caravan, keep it at home

A Buyer's Guide to Part-Exchanging Your Motorhome or Caravan

How part-exchange valuations work, what affects the figure you're offered, and how it compares to selling privately.

Part-exchanging your current motorhome or caravan against one of ours means one transaction instead of two — no running a private sale alongside your purchase, no overlap period owning (and insuring) both.

What affects the figure you're offered

A part-exchange valuation is built from the same things a private buyer would weigh up: age and mileage (motorhomes) or age alone (caravans), overall condition and any known faults, service and habitation history, extras fitted, and current demand for that particular make and model. Outstanding finance doesn't rule out a part-exchange, but it does need to be settled as part of the transaction, so it's factored into the figure.

Part-exchange vs selling privately

Selling privately will generally get you closer to full retail value, because you're selling directly to the end buyer rather than through a dealer who then has to prepare and re-sell the vehicle. The trade-off is time, effort and risk — advertising, fielding enquiries, arranging viewings with strangers, and the chance it simply doesn't sell quickly. Part-exchange trades some of that top-end value for a single, immediate, hassle-free transaction.
